The Witcher 4’s Unreal Engine 5 Tech Demo Shows How Great The Game Could Look

It's not the game's actual build.

During a State of Unreal presentation that took place overnight, we got a look at what the world of The Witcher 4 could look like courtesy of a technical demo set in the game’s world, powered by the Unreal Engine 5.

It’s worth reiterating that the footage isn’t pulled from any in development build of the game, it’s simply a means to showcase how staggeringly good the game, which is in development at CD Projekt RED, could look running on a base PlayStation 5.

VGC confirmed, via a CD Projekt RED spokesperson, that the demo is a “collaboration with Epic Games to push open-world design further than ever before and the core systems and features we’re developing using Unreal Engine 5.”

A lot of new technical buzzwords also filtered throughout the statement, among them were SmartGeo streaming, Nanite Foliage, and UAF. They’re somewhat lost on me, but what’s certain is that the technical showcase has rightly left people stunned.

The Witcher 4, which sees Ciri take over from Geralt of Rivia as the franchise lead, was first shown at The Game Awards last year.
