Mortal Kombat 1 Is Getting A Story Expansion, New Characters And More

Finish It.

During the weekend’s SDCC festivities, NetherRealm has revealed the new content coming to Mortal Kombat 1 for its second year, including a new story expansion, six new characters and the return of Animalities.

Dubbed Khaos Reigns, the new story DLC will see Liu Kang rallying his champions (and trusting his enemies) once more to face off against a new threat from an alternate timeline – Titan Havik. Six new characters are also being added to the game, confirming earlier leaks with three returning MK fighters launching alongside the new story content on September 24th, and three guest fighters coming at a later date. These are:

Mortal Kombat 1 Kombat Pack 2 Characters

  • Noob Saibot
  • Cyrax
  • Sektor
  • Ghostface
  • Conan
  • T-1000

The Khaos Reigns DLC will come as standard with the new Kombat Pack 2 characters for $75.95, or as a bundle that also includes the original Kombat Pack characters and Kameo Fighters for $90.95. Kombat Pack 2 will only be available in either of these two options and not as a standalone pack.

Pre-orders of either version of Khaos Reigns also come with four additional skins – Wedding Scorpion, Sub-Zero (Mortal Kombat 3), Empress Mileena and Classic Ninja Skin.

You can check out the (age-gated) trailer for Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns below to get a taste of the new story content, a look at the new characters and some incredibly-gory Animalities:

We gave Mortal Kombat 1 a huge 9.5/10 in our review last year, with James saying, “Mortal Kombat 1 is a joyful reinvention of a series that is continually hitting its stride. A strong and varied roster is bolstered by an ingenious Kameo system that offers up a great degree of player flexibility unlike anything else. While it’s a bit off an odd choice to not have crossplay at launch and the approach to gear is bound to be divisive, Mortal Kombat 1 feels like the most complete Mortal Kombat experience so far. And perhaps even one of the best fighting games I’ve ever played.”
