Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time Developer Ubisoft Toronto Is Laying Off 33 Staff

Tale as old as time.

Just a month after the studio announced it was ing Ubisoft Montreal in working on the embattled Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, Ubisoft’s Toronto studio is letting go of 33 team in yet another significant industry layoff.

PC Gamer reported the news, and was provided a statement from Ubisoft, which said:

“Ubisoft Toronto has decided to conduct a targeted realignment to ensure it can deliver on its ambitious roap. Unfortunately, this will impact the roles of 33 team who will be leaving Ubisoft. We are committed to providing comprehensive to them, including severance and career assistance, to help through this transition.”

Ubisoft Toronto is on the front lines of reviving some much-loved sixth generation Ubisoft titles, having already been working on a remake of the original Splinter Cell before ing the folks at Ubisoft Montreal in crafting the embattled Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake.

The studio broke the news that it was ing development in a post on X last month, writing:

Ubisoft Toronto is ing the development of the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time!

“We’re excited to rewind time and bring our studio’s creativity, expertise and updated tech to refresh this beloved classic with our partners at Ubisoft Montreal.”

Despite the layoffs, Ubisoft reckons that work on The Sands of Time and the Splinter Cell will continue uninterrupted at the Toronto studio, saying, “Our plan remains unchanged, and our teams are working to deliver on the Splinter Cell remake and other projects at the studio.”
